While I Sleep, Book Shelves Dream

The way of kings crossed
cold magic, the Magician.
In the forests of the Night
the Candidates matched
the power of six new moons,
the watchers breaking dawn.

so I thought I'd try creating a poem from some titles of books on my bookshelves.  This is just a start. I might keep working on it and see how long and how many titles I can include in it.  I think the only rules I'll keep is that I can only add conjunction words and (s) or (ed) at the ends of words to make them work.  I think I'll randomly capitalize some of the words that are actually capitalized in titles to break up the fluency of it so it stands out more that those were once capitalized.

Teenage Freedom

The long nights of teenage freedom did slip
through my out stretched hand as I tried to hold
all I was supposed to be and believe.
Still, I smile when I see a Lumina.
The full front seat left blushing memories.
The parking lots and dirt roads were witness
as my innocence slowly slipped away
on those long nights of teenage freedom.

I've been trying to get into writing more poetry lately since I haven't been doing as much since the semester ended.  I have another poetry writing class this coming semester so I'm trying to get back into a writing state of mind.  It's been difficult because I haven't had inspiration.  Tonight however my mind traveled back to my days as a teenager as I fell in love for the first time.  This is definitely not a poem I want my parents to read. lol.  Hope you enjoy though. =)

Loneliness of Perfection

Cross the worn path and fall
Into the deep woods of alone
Where unbroken crisp snow
Is still pristine and deer gaze silently.
Dip your fingers into the iciness
Of alone and perfect
Feel them go numb,
See them go red,
 like the swollen eyes
Of the girl you left behind
The night you decided
She followed the worn path too far.

Hey! Brand spankin' new poem!  Just wrote it minutes ago.  I really like it. =)  That's why I'm sharing it.  Enjoy. ~T

Enter Autumn

Enter Autumn
Autumn breaks the crisping shallows of leaves.
Autumn lets the rain pour down from the dark skies.
Autumn brings glowing pumpkins onto the porch.
Autumn lets the wind blow her hair around with cool fingers.
Autumn braces for Winter.
Winter comes smiling with white chattering teeth.
The two lovingly embrace.
Autumn leaves.

Sorry I haven't been posting poems as much this last month.  I've been busy with school and other stuff.  Here is one of my newer poems.  I'm in the process of creating my first chapbook of poetry.  It's required for my poetry writing class I'm in.  It's very neat though and I'm excited about it.  Feel free to leave a comment about this poem or if you're interested in having a copy of my chapbook that I'm creating.  It will contain poems I've written this semester.  ~T

It's Only Natural

Sapiens:                       Cell by cell we form
Minds searching for so much more
                                       A creavolution

Sweet-n-low:                  Diabetes sucks
Like sweet tea in the summer
                                    Sip, sip, sip away

Sunscreen:                    Level of degree
Skin that cringes in the heat
                                  Welcome the aloe

Silicone:                These bouncing beauties
They never droop in tight tees
                                  Jiggle, jiggle, woah!

Skyscrapers:           We build them up high
                          Reaching, reaching for the sky
                                 Down below, is full

This is my latest poem I wrote for my workshops in my poetry writing class this semester.  My classmates didn't quite grasp the concept of the poem but they were close.  I got the idea from reading an article about people saying man made stuff wasn't natural.  The writer of the article went on to explain that technically everything that evolves and forms through this world is natural and as humans we cause things to form just as a rain drop falling into the soil causes things to grow and thus all things are natural even if they seem unnatural because they are man made.  My poem is pointing out how these things that seem unnatural are in fact natural responses from us humans to compensate for something we find is a problem.  i.e. sugar being bad for us so we create "unnatural" sweetener to try to fix that problem.  We get sun burned by the suns rays, so we create sun screen to use.  We find our bodies lacking some how, so we create a product and procedure to fix it.  We run out of room to build enough buildings to house people, so we build the buildings up.  I couldn't understand why my classmates couldn't understand how my poem conveys this...  They did however seem to all really like it despite not quite understanding it, so I don't think I'm going to be editing it.  Please leave comments if you think differently.  Thanks!  ~T

My Bed

On my Island
Cushioned between
Rocks of cotton
Surround by
Trees of pages
Covered by
Branches of warmth
I sleep.

Had to write a place poem for my poetry writing class this week.  This is what I came  up with.  It's short and simple but I like it. :) ~T

I Felt a Funeral in my Brain by Emily Dickinson

So today is the anniversary of the terrorist attack on America. 9/11/01.  I'll just say, Never Forget.
Anyways, yesterday in my poetry class my teacher brought this Emily Dickinson poem up.  I have read it before and liked it but didn't realize how much I liked it until when she started writing it that I found that I could remember most of the words.  Anyways, so I thought I'd share it here on this sad day.  Enjoy. ~T

I felt a funeral in my brain,
        And mourners, to and fro,
Kept treading, treading, till it seemed
        That sense was breaking through.
And when they all were seated,
        A service like a drum
Kept beating, beating, till I thought
        My mind was going numb.
And then I heard them lift a box,
        And creak across my soul
With those same boots of lead,
        Then space began to toll
As all the heavens were a bell,
        And Being but an ear,
And I and silence some strange race,
        Wrecked, solitary, here.
And then a plank in reason, broke,
And I dropped down and down--
And hit a world at every plunge,
        And finished knowing--then--

Tick Tock

Here is a poem that is due coming up that I just finished writing.  This one was difficult to do.  The assignment was to mimic our choice of a Shakespearean Sonnet.  I'll first show you the sonnet I chose to mimic then my poem.  Enjoy!
~T

Sonnet XII (12)  William Shakespeare
When I do count the clock that tells the time,
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night;
When I behold the violet past prime,
And sable curls, all silvered o'er with white;
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves,
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,
And summer's green all girded up in sheaves,
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,
Then of thy beauty do I question make,
That thou among the wastes of time must go,
Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake
And die as fast as they see others grow;
And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence
Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.

Tick Tock

When each second I hear ticks slowly, loud
And I see the glorious sun devoured,
When nightly news echoes into the crowd
And stale cookies sit crumbled, their sweet milk soured;
When the parched weeds I see wither to naught
From which roses shrank and left in dismay
And last glancing eyes, Heavenly Moonshot—
Spy Dark clouds, pale and plump, full of decay…
Then, do I mull the brilliance of wake
That raise of happiness slip by un-scathed,
As tiaras and stars, above Earth, quake
And topple, falling as fast as rain bathes…
And no trace of goodness does the hand wind,
Except, perhaps the courage to flat-line.

Bad News

The crinkled paper blew
edge over edge over edge over...
--discarded refuse
crunched beneath hot rubber
stuck to flattened double bubble
upon the searing black.
The crinkled paper blew
edge over edge over edge over...
--discarded words
crunched beneath angry feet
stuck helplessly, unyeilding
searing into the mind of the girl.
The crinkled paper blew
edge over edge over edge over...
--discarded message
crunched in fear and pain
stuck in time as real
as the searing black pavement.
The crinkled paper blew.

Just wrote this poem today.  I imagined how I could creatively put how I felt about the bad news I received today.  There wasn't actually a paper but I imagined if there was a paper with the words that this is what would play out.  I know many people can associate bad news with something similar to this. ~T

Pen and Paper: A Love Story

Like magnets, we meet again.
I shall caress you, making you blush.
I love leaving something of myself
with you, an impression, a vibe...
You know I'm yours and you're mine.
Destined to be together, our worlds collide.
Your pale, crisp, clean skin
the earthy musk draws me.
You, I must touch.
You forgive my blunders, though
they still exist
and yes
this is our first and last kiss
of the moment.

Just wrote this tonight.  My mind just started to drift and I said, I need to write.  So I did.  My pen and paper needed to touch.  This is what we got. :)  Enjoy. ~T

Silent Words

The beat drives my heart
as my soul is wracked with pain.
Each hint of pity and sneers, echo
in a bloody chamber driving me insane.
Rip me from crown to toe,
the teases, giggles and taunts unheard.
Inside I'll hold tight, my pain won't show.
I know what you think you see.
I hear what you think I couldn't.
You don't know what it is to be me.
Your heartless thoughts.....Shouldn't
be.

To Hug a Bear

Twas that frightful night,

Twas all alone,

The wind was howling,

The moon shone.

She came running, wild.

Wheat hair did flow.

Stars twinkled in blue

Eyes that fear did know.

Her hammering heart was

Ready to burst.

The wild bear behind her

Sought blood for thirst.

As she tripped and fell,

She heard a fierce growl.

She steeled her heart for death,

Was ready for foul.

But to her surprise another

Bear did appear.

He fought so valiantly,

She had to cheer.

As the first bear did

Sink to death,

She suddenly realized

What she was left with.

She jumped, ready to spring

But tripped by her feet.

The bear was upon her

And their eyes did meet.

The kindness she saw

Confused her so.

He nuzzled at her hand,

Her eyes like a doe.

She reached out playfully and

Poked his nose.

A hearty growl shook the ground,

echoing through her toes.

A giggle escaped her lips,

Floated like stars.

The moon reflected

Wary as Mars.

Were they friends,

Bear and doe?

Or just wild?

Only they know.

My friend asked me to write a poem for him and this is what I came up with. It was fun. =) ~T
